Spring wreath

Amanda, We are painting our front door soon. I will post the before and after. Chris is insisting that he do the painting so that it's done correctly. Personally I think I did a great job on the inside of our door, but I'm happy to defer.

Anyway, now that the snow has melted it's got me thinking about landscaping and curb appeal. I have to take down my winter wreath but I don't have a replacement.

Spring wreaths are tricky to find. Here are some lovelies that I think would look nice inside or outside of the house.

It's a perfect way to add greenery to your home without having to remember to water something. And in the case of the lavender - a natural odor eater.

Pillow fancy

Amanda, I was online perusing throw pillows on etsy, finding all kinds of goodies and throwing things in my cart when Chris looked over my shoulder and said,"you aren't buying new pillows are you? Ours are like 5 minutes old!"

So here are some of my finds. Feeling guilty about making a purchase so will keep you posted...

All from www.etsy.com

I particularly love the Kilim pillows. Thinking on my bed.

Junction finds

Today Amanda and I were in the junction, drooling over Mjolk, the Scandinavian and Japanese store that makes you want to go home and strip your house of colour and accessory and attempt to create the clean and natural vibe that is their store. like this:

image

We also stumbled across a huge photograph of sky and sand and tiny little people... Must see to understand. Go to peterandrew.ca... The best part is that he is in Toronto. Love to support local artists.

Moving on, we popped into Metropolis Living. Neither of us had ever been in there but we were instantly drawn to the awesome motel sign hanging on the wall:

image

But it gets better because that sign can be made to order. Make it whatever you want: my husband would have some great suggestions;)

Then we moved to the other side of the street to see what Smash had to offer and what a lovely surprise that was... Turns out they had recently unloaded a wallpaper warehouse and had more wallpaper options than we could ever imagine - beautiful vintage options even. Each roll $10. I bought a cool floral roll that I might use in a frame.

This wasn't even half of it. And lucky for Smash, our toddlers took to rearranging their inventory. Sweet children of ours...

Task lamp

Amanda, While shopping for a task lamp I realized that their are sooo many options out there. It's really a style that has stood the test of time. Moreover, it has evolved into a household staple because it used to be regarded solely as a lamp for a desk/office and now it is being seen on bedside tables and credenzas.... Totally versatile.

Here are some gorgeous examples that can be found around the city:

You posted about this one before: ikea.com and cheap! What you can't see very well is the striping in the cord. A lovely detail.

The above three are westelm.com. I really like the first of them - I think it's the marble base. Unique.

These two are from structube.com. By far Chris' favourite.

This one wouldn't work anywhere because of the teal rope but in the right place could be phenomenal. Crateandbarrel.com

Ahhh elte.com, you never cease to impress.

I particularly like that black and gold floor lamp. If I didn't already have one in my living room I would add it to my wish list. It would look fantastic next to my black and gold mantle.

Rugs

Amanda, I've started thinking about a new rug for our living room. What I would really like is this one from www.elte.com:

image

But it's a bit pricey. So then I remembered that link you sent me to dashandalbert.com. Some nice pics there! Thank you very much:

Meg told old me a while back about rugsusa.com. She has a couple in her house. Beautiful and reasonable and mailed to your door!

I'm not ready to commit to anything yet and of course I have those two furry animals that I live with to think about but it's a good start. I know you love rug shopping so I thought you might want to weigh in.

I am leaving the island to do a little shop tomorrow. Very excited! Saw a girl on the beach with an amazing target swimsuit. Cross your fingers it's still available.

Pottery Barn

Kate, I went to Pottery barn the other day with a friend.  When we walked out she said to me "if I could decorate my whole home in Pottery barn, I would."  I felt the same way.  It really is a great store. Expensive but great.  I always want to crawl in to their couches and I really love their accessories.  Here were a few things that caught my eye.

Last but not least they have a fake fiddle leaf fig tree!  Two reasons this excites me.  I can't get over having one of my children or my dog ingesting a poisonous plant. (I am a worry wort) And I have a brown thumb.  Yes, that's right, I kill anything that is green in my home.  It also looks real!

Ahhh Pottery Barn you stole my heart this week.

Zara Home

Amanda, Remember when Zara Home was first launched I declared that I couldn't find anything on the website that I liked? Well, I've changed my mind. I put together a look with some of their fantastic pieces. Please note: the rug is made of leather!

I'm so excited that we have yet another place to find beautiful and reasonable things. They even have that kids section. As if their clothes weren't enough of an addiction....

Peter Pilotto for Target

Kate, The Peter Pilotto collection for Target is coming out on Feb 9th.  I'm really hoping that their stuff is going to be at the Target closest to us.  I am loving the romper especially.  It's the second one in from the left.

I also love two of the dresses in the collection as well.

Of course the prices are incredible as well.  The only problem is our already packed Sunday!  I fear I may miss out...

The settee

Amanda, There is a look I'm just obsessing over, it's a settee in a dining room setting. It kind of feels like you're combining your living and dining space and as a result it is a really warm and comfortable look. Since my house is open concept and we don't have a closed and formal dining room, I think the settee would be perfect in our home.

Some examples:

But this is my favourite example:

:image

So I found a beautiful settee that is the perfect colour. It's from West Elm and it's on sale. There is just one problem: I have two kids. Am I shooting myself in the foot if I put an upholstered settee at the dining room table that the kids often eat at?

Leather chair

Kate,

Ever since I decided to add a fireplace in my living room I've been jonesing for new chairs.  The chairs I have in the room currently are called slipper chairs which were perfect for our first smaller home, but now seem a little out of place.  I'm envisioning a room that is cozy, almost den like and a little more masculine.  In my head, I see us drinking some red wine (me) and brandy (Mike or anyone but me) and staying up late talking after a great dinner.  These chairs are part of my little dream scenario.

cavett-leather-chair

The above is from Crate and Barrel and is called the Cavett chair.

The second chair is called the Kanji chair from Structube and is an insane deal at $299.  The only problem is that the next delivery/availability is mid april!  Oh well...I'll just keep dreaming.

Pendant love

Kate, I've been thinking about replacing my pendant for something less gothic and more modern.  I must say that usually it does not take me very long to find several things I want to purchase but this time nothing seemed quite right until I saw this.

pendant

It's by Lindsey Adelman.  It's the "You make it Chandelier."  Now let's be clear, I will not be making anything, but if Mike agrees to make it then it's all systems go on this beautiful piece of pendant art!

Oh crystal lamp

Kate, Like a tiger in the jungle I was on the hunt for a good piece of meat at Homesense. (Seriously, this is really how I feel sometimes at Homesense.  You gotta find it and pounce before someone else gets it!)  It was really the only piece that I kept obsessing over.  While I don't think it's for everyone, it's certainly very now.

crystal lamp

It's clean in design but yet not at all...do you know what I mean?  I love the 70's vibe of it!

The story doesn't have the happiest ending as this Tiger had to skulk away in defeat because I just couldn't justify it.  Hoping for better hunting experience next time!

Agate Knobs

Kate,

Take a look at these knobs!

BEAUTIFUL!!!  I just love the natural look of them.

They are from West Elm and if they weren't $56.10 for two (yes two!) they would be mine.  I would absolutely love these in my kitchen.

Low and behold today I was scanning Onekingslane and they have Agate knobs on sale!  Here are a few,

They are $24.00 for two.  I don't think these are for everyone but the certainly make a statement.

Gorgeous, non!?

Chapters Indigo wall art

Amanda,

I spent the afternoon at chapters. What else do you do with a 2 year old when all the other two year olds nap!? I am continually impressed with their home products, from the pillows to the mugs to their seasonal items. Love it all. In fact, my last two wallets (of all things) were purchased there and I saw a new red one that I might have to snap up.
Anyway, since I can't buy it all, I ended up focusing on their wall art. The choices are beautiful and elegant. You have to disregard the fact that you are paying $15 for a piece of card stock.

So this is the one I settled on for M2's room:
