Lovely pins: gardening glory

Amanda, We spent the entire day outside. After our walk this morning we played in the court until 5 pm. Basking in the sun, making up for our vitamin D deficiencies. It was glorious.

I had lots of time to ponder my surroundings.... How much I love our street, how much I love our neighbors, how much I love my kids. Then I pondered what my new painted door will look like when it's done. How I will need to brighten our curb appeal with flowers. Oh right, flowers! Where are they? Not even a bud yet.

Hence the inspiration for my lovely pins. I don't do the gardening around here but I sure love the benefits of a manicured front and backyard.

Lovely pins: ode to Scandinavian decor

Amanda, In line with my love for clean crisp white and minimalist Scandinavia, here are some recent pins. On a rainy day like today, the white in my house is brightening my mood, along with our trip to Sherway, despite the kids fighting over the stroller.

How do your pillows work? My curtains are fab. Still much more to do with project family room but feeling inspired for sure. Here is where the inspiration is coming from:

Don't these images just make you feel calm? Hoping to achieve the same feeling: relaxed and uncomplicated.

Lovely Pins: CB2 Mirror

Kate, Ever since I saw the February cover of House and Home Magazine I have been in love with the CB2 brass mirror.

mirror

I think it looks gorgeous anywhere and it comes in at an affordable $249.00.  Here are a few ways I have it pinned on my pinterest.  I'm personally picturing it above my new mantel.

I wish I could have found a better picture of Sarah Hartill's House and Home cover but this was the best I could do.  Check out the mirror above her mantel.

mirror house and home

I love it next to the bed, behind a bedside table.  What a beautiful way to add a sense of openness to a bedroom if you're not lucky enough to have a window.

Having a mirror in an entryway is pretty key and this one looks gorgeous.

Happy Saturday!

Lovely Pins: Art in the kitchen

Kate, I love art in the kitchen!  It brings a little more interest and coziness into one of the most, if not most used, spaces in the home.  I dream of having some open shelving to one day add this into my home.

Lovely Pins: Florida inspired

Amanda, I just love Florida. I know part of it is because I associate it with vacationing so naturally it evokes feelings of relaxation and rest. (This is our eighth year.) But there is something about Florida that goes beyond that - it has a culture of it's own. A vibe. I think it's the palm trees and all the pastel.

Here are my picks this week.... Florida inspired:

#1. Florida design. This Florida pool in Vero beach is how I want our backyard to feel come summertime.

image

#2. Florida art.... A good excuse to bring in a Flamingo or two.

image

#3. Florida Interiors. Fabulous beach house using Florida colour scheme.

Lovely Pins - Bathrooms

Kate, As you know, the bathrooms in our home were the one thing that were already updated when we bought the home.  While it was great for our pocketbook and the budget, it wasn't the best in terms of my taste.  I like the bathrooms just fine but I certainly don't love them.  I dream of a white bathroom or at least very pale colours.  This week I did a lot of pining on bathrooms.

#1- I love the combo of brass and white and black in this washroom.  The sconces are gorgeous and the black grout looks spectacular.

bathroom 3

#2- This has the same dark grout in the first picture but I love the addition of the off center round mirror.  Notice the plants!

Bathroom 5

#3- I love the marble tile in this picture.  I especially love the little shelves and the idea of a plant in the shower.

Bathroom 1

#4- The wood, the plant, and the white sparkling tile make me drool!  I love the natural elements mixed with the pure white.

I cannot wait to one day do my bathrooms again.  Until then, I will always have pinterest!

Lovely Pins: Lighting

Kate, I am enjoying the sun!  I've also been enjoying my ice cream and vino a little too much and fear that I may be an unrecognizable by the time I get back to Toronto.  Every day I tell myself that I must start running! It's as though if I just say it and then forget to do it that it counts for something.  I need your positive influence Kate!  I know if you were here you would force me to put down the ice cream and get my running shoes on.  Our runs would be quite comical though just like in the past-you would be chatting away running, like it were nothing, and I would be clomping and heaving along side you asking you to stop!  Really though I am going to start tomorrow...Bahahahah.

On to lovely pins.  I noticed a pattern this week with my pining- lighting!  A lot of pendants and sconces.

#1- I love this pendant.  I have pinned a large and small version.  I haven't even looked up the price since I have a feeling it's very pricey.

#2- This simple beautiful pendant.  I picture this over an island or even along side a bed over a bedside table.

lighting 3

#3- Another Pendant. Maybe because I am in Florida and feeling beachy but I love this for a dining room or for a baby girl nursery.

Pendant

#4- This sconce.  It could go in a bedroom, nursery or along side a fireplace.  Gorgeous!

#5- I love this brass fixture.  I would love this in my bedroom.

Lovely Pins: coffee

Amanda, Coffee is such an integral part of home life for most of us. The smell as it brews, the ritual it provides, the injection of energy and it's delicious taste. I love it all and I know you do too. So I thought I would devote my "lovely pins" post to coffee and it's friends.

1. The mug. I exclusively have white mugs at our house - personal preference. My dad, however, drinks from a mug M1 (my son) painted for him. My girlfriend Mel has a Starbucks mug collection from all the cities she has travelled to that have a Starbucks (many.) Brianna picked up a set of vintage mugs at an antique shop off the side of the highway on the way to my cottage. Mugs can say a lot about a person.

2. I have two modes of making coffee in my house. Would find it hard to live without either. I'm coveting the metallic versions of both: nespresso machine and gold bodum. See below.

3. Sometimes it's just nice to go out for coffee.

Hope you are enjoying yours with the sun streaming in.

Lovely Pins: Ikea Hacks

Amanda, We were at Michelle and Dan's last night, enjoying Valentines Day in their hot tub. The guys were talking about who-knows-what and Michelle and I got on the topic of house stuff... She reminded me about the world of Ikea hacks. She had seen this awesome dresser that had been given an update with simple trim and some paint. Did you know that their is an entire website devoted to ikea transformations? See Ikeahackers.net

Pinterest is another fantastic resource: plug in ikea hacks and the possibilities are endless. Here are some greats:

Steph Macgregor used to always use the saying "cheap and cheerful" when it came to finding something great and reasonable. That's what I think about Ikea purchases. And with a simple hack some of them can appear "luxe and lovely."

Lovely Pins Continued

Kate, Remember a few weeks back when I told you I got into my Pj's at 5 pm and was so happy about it that I wanted to actually update it on my facebook status!  Mike looked at me like I was crazy and actually said I was a bit pathetic and you said I was awesome!  I'm going with awesome.  Well I did it again last night! I was going to text you about it because of my happiness again.  It's because of this frigid weather.  I was so happy to be cozy inside with my family and NOT going out.  So in the spirit of your pins on keeping warm, here are my picks.

#1.  Chocolate caramel pudding cakes.  Who wouldn't want to eat these by the fire!

#2.  Fireplace.  I am obsessed with this fireplace.  It is a thing of beauty.

Fireplace.

3.  This grey sheepskin.  Gorgeous!

#4.  A warm and stylish coat.

Btw,  I really want those Lazy pants in white...maybe they would make a good valentines gift instead of Lingerie.  Sexy!

Lovely pins this week: warm fuzzies

Amanda, My pins this week were inspired by the need to get warm in this frigid weather.  I'm scared to get out of the shower in the morning. I race to take off my clothes and put on my pajamas at night. And I want to live in flannel. I actually had the fleeting thought last night as I was getting ready to go out for dinner with a bunch of friends 'can I get away with wearing sweat pants?"

Some thoughts on how to make it all better below.

#1.  A warm space: who doesn't want to be there?

image

#2. Lazy pants: warmest and coziest pants you could ever slip on. Just bought my first....and second pair.

image#3. A warm thought: true love forever

image

I feel better already.
