Amanda, Here's the recipe for that Sour Cream Coffee Cake you devoured today. It comes straight from my mother-in-law and is definitely a family favourite. So much so, that I don't ever have to make it because it's dropped on my door step every once and a while.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake

1/2 c butter or margarine

1 c white sugar

2 eggs beaten

1 tsp vanilla

1 c sour cream

1 tsp baking soda

1 3/4 c sifted cake flour or all purpose

2 tsp baking powder

Topping:

1/2 c brown sugar

1 tbsp cinnamon

1/2 c nuts (optional)

Blend butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla, beat well. Combine sour cream and baking soda in separate bowl. Sour cream should double in volume but may not. Add alternately with sifted flour and baking powder to creamed mixture. Spread half the batter in greased 9 X 9 pan. Sprinkle with half topping mixture. Cover with remaining batter and sprinkle rest of topping on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
